Telehealth – Convenient Support for Busy Families

Parenting is a full-time job. Whether you’re juggling work, school drop-offs, toddler challenges, changing teen moods, or all of the above, finding time to take care of yourself and your family doesn’t have to mean more planning, juggling or pressure. Enter the convenience of online (or as we call it, “telehealth”) psychology.

When did online psychology become a ‘thing’?

You guessed it … Covid times.  Whilst online or ‘virtual’ meetings were routine in many workplaces pre 2020, online services for psychology weren’t as readily adopted. When Covid struck in Australia, many psychologists (including our own principal psychologist, Craig) continued to practise in clinic with little change (albeit a little PP&E!). The aftermath however of sustained periods of time in lockdown for many people translated to a new familiarity and appreciation for the conveniences of online services, including for psychology.

Convenience That Fits Your Life (goodbye to traffic and time off)

Whether it’s in between meetings, or after the kids sports training, telehealth consults give you the flexibility to schedule appointment times that work for you. There’s no need to race across town or factor in time for parking. Log in from the privacy of your home (in comfy clothes!), work, or wherever you feel most comfortable. We can also connect with kids when they’re at school, this working best for teens in secondary school, who can join a call from a wellbeing space, which is common in many schools.

Choose Your Space

For some people (including kids), there’s some apprehension that comes with just the thought of having to find their way to a new location for the first time, or having to sit in a waiting room before an appointment – all entirely valid feelings. We find that these types of apprehensions can be reduced or very much limited when appointments are held in a space you or your child is already familiar and comfortable with, be it the couch, the car, or the kitchen table. With that comfort also comes the increased propensity to talk and open up, making your session even more effective.

Just as Effective as In-Person Sessions

Whilst chatting online might not be for everyone, most of our clients tell us that it’s just as effective for them as in person sessions. The main thing we hear is that having a telehealth session makes it easier to get support, in a timely way, when it’s needed the most (without the logistics).

Support for You, So You Can Support Them

Being a parent means showing up for others (quite often, around the clock). It can be beautifully exhausting! Being match fit for parenting usually means being in a stable emotional and physical space ourselves. For many people, emotional self-care means chatting with their psychologist on the regular (just like any other health provider).  So whether you’re juggling work-life balance, adjusting to changing family routines, or just feeling stretched too thin, talking to your psychologist can help with managing stress, reconnecting with yourself and family, and building tools to handle whatever life (and your kids) throw your way.

What do you think?

Are you team online, or prefer face to face? Maybe you’re a little of both? If you’re not sure and have questions, drop us a line - we’re happy to have a quick chat to answer your questions.
